Our History
From 1978 until now, the church services have lengthened from one hour per Sunday to around 2 hours (both services), with extra time given to praise and worship. In these past years the congregation has grown 20 times.
This church congregation was born in 1865 and in the 1930’s it stopped meeting when attendance dwindled to only two families. From the early 1930’s to the late 1940s the building remained empty, after which it was leased to the United Church.
In the late 1960’s the United Church congregation moved, and at that time a small group of local residents took charge, creating Selwyn Community Baptist Church. When we outgrew the little country church, we met in a warehouse before moving to our present location.
Our legal incorporated name is now The Church at Selwyn, although we are commonly known as Selwyn Outreach Centre. With the recent township name change to the Municipality of Selwyn, The Church at Selwyn is back in Selwyn!
Sunday Gatherings
We meet Sunday mornings at 10:00am, and most Sunday evenings at 5:30pm.
We have a lively Spirit-led worship team with a mix of originals, modern songs, and hymns.
We invite you to visit with us so that we can worship together as one before the Lord. We do not necessarily have to be one in doctrine or thinking we can disagree, but still be in unity if we are one in spirit.
John 4:23-24: “Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”
About Selwyn
We are a Bible-based church and a vibrant community of believers committed to knowing Jesus and following the leading of the Holy Spirit. We invite you to visit and worship with us that we might flow together as one before the Lord. Not one in doctrine or thinking, but one in spirit. “But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him in spirit and truth.” John 4:23
We feel called by God to serve not only our body of believers, but also our local city and community, as well as those in need in our world. The Lord promised me, “Instead of the thorn shall come up the cypress tree, and instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle tree; and it shall be to the Lord for a name, for an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off.” Isaiah 55:13
