ABOUT SELWYN

Our Worship

We meet Sunday mornings at 10:00am, and most Sunday evenings at 6:30pm.

We invite you to visit with us so that we can worship together as one before the Lord. We do not necessarily have to be one in doctrine or thinking ‚we can disagree but still be in unity if we are one in spirit.

John 4:23-24: “Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”

Our History

From 1978 until now, the church services have lengthened from one hour per Sunday to around 2 hours (both services), with extra time given to praise and worship. In these past years the congregation has grown 20 times.

This church congregation was born in 1865 and in the 1930’s it stopped meeting when attendance dwindled to only two families. From the early 1930’s to the late 1940s the building remained empty, after which it was leased to the United Church. In the late 1960’s the United Church congregation moved, and at that time a small group of local residents took charge, creating Selwyn Community Baptist Church. When we outgrew the little country church, we met in a warehouse before moving to our present location.

Our legal incorporated name is now The Church at Selwyn, although we are commonly known as Selwyn Outreach Centre. With the recent township name change to the Municipality of Selwyn, The Church at Selwyn is back in Selwyn!

The Vision

“I saw in the spirit realm a flaming cross over this area and flames spreading from rooftop to rooftop. This vision was for the area, not just for this church. Fire represents a move of God's Holy Spirit to change lives and to have many come to know Christ in an intimate personal relationship. This will happen in this area if we pray and obey the voice of our Lord.”
